Homeschool Day at the Capitol is an opportunity for homeschooled families to tour the WV state capitol, study civics, and meet their legislators. It's also a great opportunity for legislators to establish a positive understanding of homeschoolers!
Please note: the tours have limited participant spaces. You must add these to your registration - first come, first served. (The number of spaces remaining will be apparent.)
Schedule for the day:
Register each family member and mark the special sessions/activities for each person separately. (See "add another registrant" below to register additional family members.) Children under 5 do not need to register.
Yes, it's okay to send me text messages including confirmations, changes, updates, and/or promotions. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. View our terms of service & privacy policy.
Does your student want to perform during the noon rally? Instruments, singing, poetry, drama, dance or any other performing arts piece is welcome during the noon rally. Please make sure the performance is appropriate for all ages. We will have a full-sized keyboard. Mark this option when registering the actual performer.
Homeschool students and families may display their projects, reports, group activities, and talents on tri-fold style boards. We set these up outside the Senate Chamber. The displays give legislators the opportunity to learn about homeschooling and see the accomplishments of homeschooled students. Mark this option only once for each display - NOT for each registrant (unless you're bringing additional displays).
A 30-minute tour of the state capitol begins at the tour desk in the lower rotunda. Your family will learn interesting facts about the capitol, its designer, and other details. Mark for each registrant participating.
A self-guided tour of the Supreme Court Learning Center.
A 1-hour self-guided tour of the WV State Museum located across the courtyard in the WV Cultural Center. The tour will open with a brief explanation of the layout of the museum and an explanation of the different educational programs that are available. Please be on time.
Homeschool Day at the Capitol is a free event open to all who wish to participate, and CHEWV does not require membership to register. If you are not a current member of CHEWV but would like to join the CHEWV family of homeschoolers, here is your opportunity!
